1. Dawn of the Dead (2004)
This movie is probably the zombie movie of all zombie movies. Both this movie and the original flick which was released in 1978. The 1978 movie was written by George A. Romero, an icon and a huge contributing factor to the idea of the modern day zombie. This movie has non stop action by slightly speeding through a boring introduction and getting right to the chase. Quickly into the movie the zombie apocalypse is taking over and we find a set of people trapped in an enclosed, semi-secure area surrounded by flesh-eating undead. As the movie goes on it delivers a great amount of controversy, suspense, and of course, a fine dose of zombie slaying or human eating gore! Both the 1978 version and the modern 2004 version are great example of an apocalyptic, zombie survival flick.
2. Shaun of the Dead (2004)
So how often do you see romantic-comedy-zombie-spoof movies? Well honestly this one is the only one I've seen and it delivers in every aspect. This movie, starring Shaun Pegg, was released after the remake of the zombie movie Dawn of the Dead in 2004. Its mainly about a guy in London, England stuck in this insipid cycle, called a life, trying to make his girlfriend happy and satisfy all friends and family around him. One day, hell breaks loose and hes suddenly walking around in an infected London and very slowly noticing it. When he realizes that zombies are on a rampage through the city, he makes a heroic attempt to gather all of his friends and family and bring them to a safe place to keep free from zombies and getting infected.
3. 28 Days Later (2002)
Did you ever wake up in a hospital room all by yourself? The whole hospital empty? The whole street empty? Or even the whole city empty? Well that's what happened to a coma patient, Jim, who wasn't alone as he thought. He finds that the city of London is far more than abandoned. A raging virus has spread throughout the city that causes an extreme rabies-like effect and infects others if the infected species' blood or saliva enters their body. Yea yea, this isn't exactly a zombie movie considering these people are less of zombies and are mainly just insane, hungry, berserk, infected humans. This is a story about how a man, Jim, tries to fight for survival and find a way to get to whatever safe place he can. His plan is to do whatever is necessary to survive. The movie is a suspenseful, action packed story that is definitely recommended to see.
4. Planet Terror (2007)
An American-written classic by Robert Rodriguez with Quinten Terintino's movie "Death Proof" as part of the double feature, Grindhouse. The movie is about a chemical that is released after a problem with chemical engineers and military officials goes down while making a transaction. The chemical infects the group and a nearby town. The infected townspeople are brought to a nearby hospital and attempt to be treated. The infection spreads and a zombie outburst is unleashed. This action horror film is one of Quinten Terintino's infamous action-horror films that is definitely worth watching. With his similar directing style for BA movies such as Death Proof and Machete (released this year) make it very enjoyable for someone who likes some bloody action and comedy.
5. 28 Weeks Later (2007)
This movie is a sequel to the 2002 movie "28 Days Later". It is about a man who struggles to survive and reform his family during a spreading of a berserk disease as mentioned in 28 Days Later. He manages to reach to the military and safely meet his kids who were sent to America for safety. They all move back into a re-opened London, where they previously lived. The only part of London is a main city district and is heavily guarded and patrolled by NATO forces. Inside London, the "Rage" virus is released again through an accident with an experiment. The city is again overrun by infected and the military forces have lost control. The kids escape and try to flee from the infected and make it to Wimbley Stadium outside London to be rescued by helicopter. This movie is great and shows an example of how over-whelming zombies can become.
6. Night of the Living Dead (1968)
This is yet another classic zombie movie directed by George A. Romero, the father of the modern day zombie. This is one of the six Living Dead series he has directed. This movie was also remade in 1990 and again in 2006 in a 3D version. The story is about a group of people hiding out inside a basement cellar as a epidemic spreads across the eastern seaboard. The situation was announced on the radio and television as the dead rising up as the living and attacking/consuming the living. This group fights off hordes of zombies through the night as they figure out how to deal with 2 bitten humans they are attending inside the cellar. As one of the classic zombie movies to spark the modern zombie generation this is going as number six.
7. Resident Evil (2002)
The first of the Resident Evil movie series is a suspenseful, action packed thrill ride based of the Resident Evil video games. The story is a thief in the infamous "Umbrella Corp" has accidentally released a deadly virus called "The Hive" and the facility computer system known as The Red Queen seals off the lab and kills everyone inside the facility. A special task force is sent in to shut down the facility where they find a woman named Alice who was suffering from amnesia caused by a nerve gas that was released around the facility during the computer lock-down. This team must fight off computer systems, mutants, and zombies in order to reach, and destroy The Red Queen.

8. Zombie 2 (Zombi)
Again. One of those old zombie movies you've probably never watched, but you should watch it. If you watch it, you should probably have a strong stomach. If you don't have a strong stomach, then don't watch it. Why? Because this movie is probably one of the goriest zombie movies. Director Lucio Fulti was also one of the original directors of the modern zombie. These earlier movies were mostly based on gore and horror, and were based on less humor as most zombie movies today. These movies sparked a reason to actually be afraid of zombies instead of making fun of them. This movie is about a woman and a reporter searching the island of Matool for her father who is doing research. They find the island and learn it is ridden by a disease infected people to rise from the dead and consume the living. A famous scene from this movie is one where a zombie fights and eats a tiger shark. This scene was in a Windows 7 commercial in 2012.
9. Doom (2005)
This movie is a science-fiction horror film based off the Doom video game series. The movie is about 7 Marines and their leader, Sarge (Dwayne Johnson), sent to investigate a Scientific Research Facility on Mars after a level 5 warning was sent out by a scientist during a strange emergency. A Marine, named "Reaper", finds his sister in the destroyed facility and learns scientists were conducting tests on "superhuman" remains. The martian gene chose whether it would make the patient "super" or turn them in to a monster. A patient was transformed into a monster and was bent on killing the marines. These monsters that are comparable to zombies continuously attack the crew. Reaper manages to inject himself with the gene and it transforms him into a superhuman. he then goes into a berserk, zombie killing mode that is similar to the first-person view from the video game Doom. Reaper eventually defeats the zombies and manages to destroy the threat.
10. Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island (1998)
Hey, who said this list was all about flesh-eating, gory, nasty, bloody zombies? Well no one that's who. I thought ide end on a lighter side with Scooby-Doo's first animated film, Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island. The story is about Scooby and the gang heading to Moonscar Island somewhere in the bayous of Lousianna. The group reunites after going separate ways for a while and helps out Daphne and Fred, who now own their own TV show. The gang decides to visit a place that is reported to be haunted by the ghost of a pirate named Morgan Moonscar. They visit the island to find out that something really fishy is going on on that island. Much more than just a troublesome ghost pirate, who may not be their only problem...This movie was one of my childhood favorites and is definitely a great family film, which is why it deserves a number 10 spot on my list. This is the first of many Scooby-Doo animated films, such as Scooby-Doo and the Witch's Ghost which followed a year later in 1999.
