Top Ten Pixar Films

For me, it is no contest on who my favorite movie producers are of all time. Pixar has made eleven famous, incredible movies that have been incredibly popular in the world. Their movies have been a smash hit one after the other. I mean, you see movie companies have at least one bad film. Then after that they just seem to get worse and worse, but not Pixar. They keep pumping out these amazing animated films that have been my favorites since I was a child, and are still my favorite today. I'm excited to present to you the list of top ten Pixar movies...

1. Finding Nemo (2003)

God, when I first saw this movie in commercials and movie previews I was excited. It was by my favorite movie producers and it seemed like a good story, so it looked like a decent film. When I watched it, I was amazed. The movie had beautiful animations of an undersea life and gave it a great ocean-life-to-human-life translation. I mean the story itself can be pretty relatable to a human situation. A clownfish, Marlin, and his son, Nemo, are off to Nemo's first day of school. Nemo gets captured by divers and Marlin, who has a great fear of leaving the reef his lives on, ventures out into the abyssal sea to find his son. That description right there would seem like enough to give the story away, but no, it isn't. The story has so many details and events in Marlin's adventure that I just gave away about 1/52 of the story. This movie is one of my all-time favorite movies because of its animation, story, and humor. Finding Nemo deserves number 1 on my list.

2. Toy Story (1995)

This was Pixar's first animated full-length film and probably one of my most memorable childhood films. I mean come on. What kid didn't have either a Buzz Lightyear or Woody action figure? They were loved idols of most kids my age back then and they still are famous to those age groups today. This story is about a bunch of living toys that belong to a kid named Andy. Woody, the respective cowboy doll leader, gets jealous after Andy brings home a new Space Astronaut Action Figure during Andy's Wild West "playing style". Woody worries this action figure, named Buzz Lightyear will replace him. So when Andy plans on taking Buzz to an arcade, Woody tries to swap with him and accidentally throws Buzz out the window. The rest of the toys, upset with Woody's seeming action to get rid of Buzz. So, Woody must go bring back Buzz to re-gain his friends' respect. This movie is an all-time classic.

3. Monsters Inc. (2001)

This movie is an example of one of the reasons why I love Pixar. This movie idea is simply genius. I love how Pixar thinks of a monster world where they fear humans. They only confront children to dangerously farm their screams, which are used for powering the monster world. It is said by James Waternoose, owner of Monsters Inc, that there is nothing more toxic, more deadly, than a human child. Monsters, such as our main characters, Mike and Sully, work each day to enter the human world through doorway machines and scare children and extract their screams (Which the machines automatically collect). One day, Mike and Sully's rival and competitor, Randal, tries to boost his scream numbers by stealing doors after company hours. The child enters the monster world while Randal isn't looking and follows around Sully, who is motivated to return her. So now they must work to get this "hazardous" child back to her world. Monsters Inc. is one of the funniest animated movies created and its story line is very rich and humorous. Number three in my opinion!

4. A Bug's Life (1998)

Ah, another one of my childhood favorites. This is Pixar's second animated film released in 1998. It is about an ant colony and their job to harvest food for the evil and controlling grasshoppers who pick it up each year. An inventor, Flik, tries to invent ways to make a bug's life easier and ends up causing more trouble than help. I actually remember owning the Playstation game, A Bug's Life, based off the movie. In that time the game was really good. Now, not so much. Still, this movie has a story that can inspire people who want to be different and try to make a difference in the world. It is a movie about individuality and breaking free from the control of bullies, such as the Mafia-like grasshoppers.

5. Ratatouille (2007)

Ratatoullie is a traditional French Provençal stewed vegetable dish, originating in Nice. The full name of the dish is ratatouille niçoise. Just kidding! Although that is the definition of a food in real life, it is similar to the subject of this movie, Cooking. A small rat living in the countryside of France, familiarizes himself with a cooking show in an elderly woman's home. The show is hosted by Auguste Gusteau, a world famous chef who inspires others by his motto, "Anyone Can Cook". Remy, the rat, idolizes this chef and desires to become a great cook and does develop a great skill in cooking. Forced out of his home in the country, he winds up in Paris, France. Paris is home to many famous food legends including his idol, Auguste Gusteau. He visits Gousteau's restraunt and finds a young, troubled kitchen assistant, Alfredo Linguini. Remy befriends this man and discovers the ability to control the man to cook marvelous dishes by pulling his hair. They team up and take on the hard cooking jobs and make an impact on the city with their dishes. They catch the attention of a famous, harsh food critique, Anton Ego, who intends to shut down Linquini's rise to fame. This movie is another one of Pixar's masterpeices.

6. WALL-E (2008)

WALL-E is a garbage-cleaning robot left at earth to clean up the humans' mess, who are on a scheduled space-cruise while the inhabitable Earth is being cleaned up. While the humans are in outer space, the programs and robots stop working and all of the other WALL-E machines are shut down, except one. This robot now lives on Earth, cleaning up day by day as he is programed too. Over time, Wall-E develops as sense of human feelings and attitude. When a space probe sent by the human cruise ship lands on Earth, Wall-E is amazed. He is amazed to see another robot and slowly befriends it. EVE, the robot, finds Wall-E's plant he collected while searching the planet and EVE gets sent back to the cruise ship. Wall-E chases after EVE by grabbing onto the rocket and boards the human ship. That is a small description of this widely popular movie released in 2008. The movie tells the morals of friendship, love, fitness, and the importance of saving our environment! It was listed by TIME Magazine as one of the greatest movies of the decade.

7. The Incredibles (2004)

This is a story about two superheroes raising a family after the world asked the superheroes in the world to stop saving people. The government put all superheroes into a program similar to the Witness Protection Program. The program gave all superheroes a regular identity to live by in the human world. They keep their hero identity a secret and ensure that they live a good, normal life. Bob Parr (formerly Mr. Incredible) and Helen Parr (formerly Elasta-girl) are former "supers" and married and raise three children. They also all have super powers of their own, but must keep their powers secret from the world to live regular lives. When Bob starts noticing former supers were being killed, he starts investigating. This investigation leads to an adventure that requires this family to team up with friends and, once again, be superheroes. This movie is one of Pixar's first action-packed comedies. This was also one of Pixar's hardest films to produce. To go for the "action-movie" feel to the movie, they had to use a different style which required a lot more time producing. It my opinion it was worth it. I would love to put this movie up higher but since all of the above films were great, it sits at number 7.

8. Up (2009)

Honestly this movie is one of the cutest movies I've seen. That's not very manly to say, but that's the best word to describe Up. The beginning tells the happy story of a young kid with a love for adventure. He finds a small girl with the same interests as him. He ends up falling in love with her and marrying her. The beginning tells the story of their lives. The story does get somewhat sad and depressing. Don't let this fool you though. There is much more to this Pixar film. After being forced to leave his home, he decides to move away to Paradise Falls, and hes taking his home with him. Over night he manages to rig his house with thousands of balloons and floats away as retirement home staff comes to pick him up. This movie was great, but it wasn't the best. In no way was it bad. The movie was very cute but the story got dull to me in the middle. The idea of the balloon house shows a great example of imagination and dreaming. The whole movie was mainly based on imagination and the wonder of following your dreams. This movie scored very high among critics but I'm putting it as number 8. Even though it is an amazing film, we're talking about Pixar here, all of their movies are amazing.

9. Cars (2006)

This movie, even though it was created by Pixar, is not one of my favorites. Its not a bad movie, but it just doesn't seem like the style of movie I want to see. The movie seemed more like a "kiddie" film, maybe due to its car theme. I do like the story of a famous race car accidentally falls out of his travel truck, Mac. The race car, Lightning McQueen is lost in a desert like environment. He panics, runs off, and ends up in a run-down town called Radiator Springs. He meets a bunch of other characters who own businesses in the town. They want to make locals come back to their town to get business booming again. Lightning decides to help out the town and becomes close friends with the other characters. Mac and the media find McQueen in the town and Lightning must choose between his friends and his career.

10. Geri's Game (1997)

This is one of many Pixar Short Films. I feel it can be placed as number 10 due to the fact its not a movie, but is still one of my favorites. These films were small and no more than five minutes. Some were based off of Pixar's movies. Shorts films like Jack-Jack Attack and Mike's New Car were based off their movies. Other Short Films were based off Pixar's genius ideas. Some of those Short Films are Knick-Knack and Luxo Jr. This film, called Geri's Game, is my personal favorite. Enjoy.
